When Facebook released its first-ever ad campaign, declaring "Chairs are like Facebook," the spot was met with a resounding: "You've got to be kidding me."
Three awkward iterations of the ad later, it's now clear that Facebook wasn't.
According to Facebook's Facebook page (meta, right?), pools, cakes, and Halloween all like Facebook, too.
Why? Well, Facebook explains:
"Birthday cakes are made for people to be together. They give friends a place to gather and celebrate. But too much cake probably isn?t healthy. So birthday cake is a lot like Facebook."
"Halloween gives people a chance to be scary or funny or sexy or, sometimes, a little bit of all three. Halloween lets people express themselves. That is why Halloween is like Facebook."
And, in case you missed our coverage of the pool picture last week,?"Swimming pools are filled with people. Some you know. Some you don?t. And every once in a while you see something that maybe you shouldn?t. That?s why swimming pools are a little like Facebook."
So, basically, anything can be like Facebook.
This campaign was created by Wieden + Kennedy, which was the advertising genius behind Old Spice's "the man your man could smell like" campaign and other successful spots.
