I raised 5 kids that blessed me with 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. I am an active internet user. I thought I knew about the dangers our kids faced on the internet. I recently read some articles that proved I was wrong.Safety education for kids and teens is so important with all that is happening on and off the internet. As parents we must be proactive to assure the safety of our children. Some information you need to know:*50% of people posting in chat rooms and forums your kids and teens frequent are doing so under false profiles and are actually internet predators.*There are 5,000,000 pedophiles on the internet night and day.*75% of our children will freely share personal information with strangers on the net.*There are 1,800,000,000 pornographic websites your kid or teen can access.*25% of our children and teens with no interest in pornography may still accidentally wind up viewing porn.*One third of all our kids and teens will be subjected to cyber bullying on the internet.*About 41% of our kids and teens who are victims if internet dangers will not tell their parent. When our kids and teens turn off the computer we are relieved when they go outside to become more active. Then I read statistics from another website about violent crime statistics:*On an average 47 murders are committed every day.*Forced rapes (that are reported) are at 257 daily.*Reported robbery is rising and is said to be at 1142 every day.*Then aggravated assault (that is reported) is at 2364 daily. Now some of these stats are a few years old. With this in mind ask yourself if you think crime statistics have gotten better or worse in the past couple of years? I thought you would agree that things have certainly become worse. This is why I say safety education for kids and teens is critical. There are resources that provide outstanding student safety tips for your kids and teens.
